New York Security Guard Requirements
Essential information for security companies and guard personnel
New York's Security Guard Act of 1992 requires every security guard in the state to complete approved training and register with the New York Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. Training courses are approved by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and must be taught by DCJS-approved schools and instructors.
IMPORTANT: New guards must complete the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course before they can register and be assigned. The 16-Hour On-the-Job Training Course follows within 90 working days of employment.
